Confidence Disruption: Why Confident Women Start Shrinking in Male-Dominated Workplaces
I went live for the first time on Rooted in Your Confidence last week.
We were celebrating the pre-launch of my book, Your TRUTH Changes Everything.
But somewhere in the middle of the conversation with my guest host Shevon "Shevvy" Maxwell, something shifted.
We weren't just talking about confidence anymore.
We were talking about what happens when your confidence gets disrupted slowly, repeatedly until showing up starts to feel like survival instead of purpose.
The Thing Nobody Talks About
Here's what I know after 27 years in male-dominated workplaces:X
Confidence is not a personality trait you either have or don't have.
It's something that can get worn down, little by little, over time.
Not because you're "too sensitive."
Not because you "can't handle it."
Not because you're not qualified.
But because when you work in an environment that keeps testing you, questioning you, and challenging your voice, it creates something I call a confidence disruption.
And if you don't name it, you start blaming yourself for it.
What Happened on the Live
During the conversation, Shevvy asked me about the challenges I faced over nearly three decades in the trades.
And I told the truth.
I talked about being told to train people who were less qualified than me, people who got the job I applied for.
I talked about being asked, "Do you understand?" after years of doing the work.
I talked about leaving my car in the morning "fully armored" preparing myself mentally just to walk through the door.
Because I knew someone would test me that day.
And here's the part that hit me while we were talking:
Those moments don't just frustrate you.
They start changing the way you walk in the room.
The way you hold your tongue.
The way you second-guess yourself before you even open your mouth.
You start:
Over-explaining things you already know
Second-guessing decisions you've already made
Holding back when you should speak
Working twice as hard just to be seen as competent
Not because you want to.
Because your confidence has been disrupted.
Why I Wrote Your TRUTH Changes Everything
I wrote this book because I've lived it.
And I've watched other women live it too.
I've seen women come into the trades and other male-dominated industries strong, ready, and excited.
Then slowly, they start shrinking.
Not because they aren't capable.
Because nobody taught them how to protect their confidence from repeated disruption.
This book is not hype.
It's not motivational fluff telling you to "lean in" or "be resilient."
It's grounded truth for women who are tired of proving themselves.
Here's What I Know
When you treasure yourself, you start trusting yourself.
When you trust yourself, you stop asking permission to take up space.
When you stop asking permission, you start using your voice differently.
And that's where everything changes.
Not in theory.
In real life.
On the job site.
In the meeting room.
In the moment someone tries to make you feel small.

Shevvy and I talked about the Brag Bag, the TRUTH Method, what really happens when women try to speak up in spaces that weren't built for them, and why "resilience" isn't the answer.
This conversation will give you language for what you've been feeling.

P.S. If you know a woman who keeps apologizing for taking up space, who works harder than everyone else and still gets questioned, who's tired but doesn't know how to name what she's tired from, send her this. She's not imagining it. And she doesn't need to fix herself. She needs language and tools. That's what this book is.
